Dark Horse Comics is reviving the Mask franchise in October. Dubbed The Mask: I Pledge Allegiance to the Mask, this new series will bring an extra dose of political satire to this darkly comical franchise.Be sure to follow our San Diego Comic Con coverage.

I Pledge Allegiance to the Mask will be written by Halt and Catch Fire showrunner Christopher Cantwell, with art by Patric Reynolds (Joe Golem), colors by Lee Loughridge (Stumptown) and letters by Nate Piekos (William Gibson's Alien 3). The new series takes place decades after the events of Dark Horse's previous Mask comics, with the threat of the "Big Head" having largely faded from memory. But that threat returns when a series of cartoonish murders begin cropping up across Edge City, murders which happen to correspond to the rise of a new political campaign promising to "Make America Green Again." It sounds like The Mask has found a new host.

The Mask was created by Doug Mahnke and John Arcudi and originally debuted in a 1991 miniseries simply called The Mask. The duo collaborated on two sequels, with the franchise exploding in popularity after the release of the 1994 movie starring Jim Carrey. Not counting 2014's all-ages-focused Itty Bitty Mask, this will be Dark Horse's first traditional Mask series in nearly 20 years.Look for The Mask: I Pledge Allegiance to the Mask #1 to be released on October 16.
